Staff Software Engineer
Full stack · Remote (US)
We're looking for a high-ownership, high-accountability engineer who isn't just here to write code but to deeply care about the outcome of what we build. If you think long-term about what makes a product truly great, read on.
Apply by email →What you'll do
- Own large projects end to end — from brainstorming and technical design to implementation and release
- Help develop and execute the technology strategy within a small team; you'll report to the CEO
- Scale a system that integrates multiple LLMs while avoiding dependence on any single model
- Process large-format 2D plansets and extract meaning from architectural drawings; build document pipelines for memory-intensive, hundreds-of-pages files
- Encode the intricate rules and jurisdictional nuances of building codes into AI-powered compliance systems
- Work directly with customers, gather feedback, and review code to keep shipped quality high
What we're looking for
- 8+ years of professional engineering in tech- and product-driven companies
- Full-stack experience, with willingness to learn and grow across the stack
- Rails expertise building production-grade applications — you'll guide architectural decisions in our codebase
- Experience building with AI: AI tooling in your workflow, AI-powered prototypes professionally or personally
- Strong product intuition — you care about the impact of what you build
- Thrive in ambiguity, drive initiatives independently; comfortable in a Pacific-time, fully distributed team
- React, TypeScript, GraphQL, Postgres, AWS; CS degree or equivalent foundation
- US-based; periodic travel to work with the team in the SF Bay Area
The problems are unusual: construction documents that break every off-the-shelf AI pipeline, codes that change per city block, and a $11T industry (4.3% of US GDP) where faster, more predictable compliance genuinely changes what gets built. Cities of tomorrow are built with Ichi.
